Illustration Notes for Episode Fifty

This week’s illustration depicts—for the first time ever—the character Thom! How had we gone this long without Thom in the picture? I have no idea! But here he is at last. :]

The feel I was going for here can be summoned up in the words ‘dark morning.’ I wanted to show the sun rising out there in the world while Anna, Dusty and Thom’s space remains ‘shadowed by the events’ they are navigating. I chose cool, ‘gloomy’ colors for everything in the foreground, leaving all the warm colors for the view outside their balcony window. And the argument they’re having leaves the sunny morning outside ignored, reinforcing the separation—or that was my hope anyway. (All very metaphorical, eh? ;] )

I have once again gone solo on this week’s image without the assistance of my new illustration collaborator, M. Scott Hammond, who is, happily, scrambling through an uptick in new freelance work after his pandemic drought. Go Scott! :D

As always, find an uncropped version of the image below! Enjoy. :]
