Illustration Notes for Episode Thirty-Five

This week’s episode presented that same old dilemma: what to depict that wouldn’t be a visual spoiler for this suspenseful scene. I thought about drawing a brown compact car in the rear view mirror, but didn’t want to tip off any readers who didn’t see where that was going right out the gate. In the end, Dusty’s call itself seemed the safest bet.

Since this whole scene slides more and more into disturbing territory, I chose a lurid, jarring color scheme—purple title type and text BG against a basically red/orange image, with iPhone screen buttons that were just the wrong shades to go comfortably with anything. No soothing color scheme this time. This week’s watch word was, ‘distressing.’

So, if you’d rather not keep looking at the full, uncropped and uncluttered version of this week’s image below, I will understand completely! :D

I wish you all a FAR better week than Dusty, Colleen and their families are having!
